BCM325 Pitch

BCM325

The idea of creating a Digital artefact that would impact the future in 5, 10, 25 or 50 years is incredibly broad and difficult to pinpoint however utilising my knowledge of the surfing culture along with an invested interest in the sport this project is fitting for me personally. The project will utilise the podcast method, a simple method that will be conducted weekly. Each week discussing a new topic that impacts the surfing world. Delivering facts and opinions that you may not know. Podcasts will be posted on the blog and will include further imagery emphasising points raised within the podcast.

  1. This is a really good idea! I like that you’ve taken something you’re passionate about and found a way to create a DA about it. I’m interested to see what topics you bring up in your podcasts and how they come together . I know you spoke more about focusing on the future of surfing culture and not about the sport itself, but I read an interesting article about how the surfers of the future (20-25 years) may have to wear hazmat suits when they are in the ocean due to pollution. The article I’m talking about was written particularly about L.A. but I’m sure over time it would apply to more places, I’ve left the link for the article down below. That might be an interesting topic to cover in one of your episodes- whether there is a future in surfing long term. Overall I think you have a clear concept of what you would like to do and some great ideas about how you will achieve it. Good luck and I look forward to seeing more!

  2. Basing you digital artefact on a passion makes for a great selling point in your proposition. Incorporating your own knowledge and experience as well as intertwining the culture surrounding surfing as a sport will make for interesting topics and even debates when discussed throughout your podcasts between you and your guest peers. In terms of your target audience, who this digital artefact most directed to? In aligning with the premise of the project itself towards its relevance for the future, you may want to consider discussing the media coverage on the sport and how it might be communicated in the future as well (think in terms of VR for those who are not physically able to participate in the sport for example), how might you consider the future of surfing in the digital realm with points to discuss. As a consumer of media myself, I have not been exposed to too much surfing activity or the culture behind the action of what is portrayed on screens and reality so this will be an insightful project to follow. Keen to see where your project goes, and good luck!

  4. I cannot really add much to what has already been said (since I am so late for the feed back). I agree with the previous two comments on how choosing a passion for your DA is a really good idea, the passionate projects always turn out the best in my opinion. I also reckon that if you do explore social media’s impact on your past-time that you will end up making one of the more interesting DA’s of this session.
I’d love to hear about the divide between the new and old guards of surfing culture and how things have changed between them. I would also love to learn about the impacts of social media on this passion of yours.
A problem I have is, as said above, who your target audience is; do you wish to spread the word among the surfing communities online or is this to be more of a peek for those outside looking in?
I look forward to listening in on your podcasts to see where you take this artifact and wish you the best of luck.
